Here comes the summer - Where will you be spending it? - Part 1

May 15, 2014  •  Leave a Comment

This morning on my way to work I noticed a large orange glowing ball in the sky. I remember seeing it occasionally in earlier years but couldn't quite think what it was.

Then it hit me (not literally as that would have bloody smarted)

ITS SUMMERTIME!

So now that we have established that its time to find out which events you intend to attend this year.

This blog is to show the events I am planning to attend. Other opinions are available!

'Hold on though' I hear you shout 'there have already been some events, what about those!'

OK you got me, I have been lazy yet again and tried to sneak this past you so before I go any further lets see what has already been on.

Edit, after posting what has been on so far I have yet again realised I should have done this sooner because there has already been a lot happening so this has now become part one of a two part blog to hopefully prevent you nodding off!

As always, one of the first shows of the season was The Fast Show at Santa Pod

This always has a good turn out as it is the first time for a lot of people to bring their cars out from winter builds and meet up with fellow enthusiasts they may not have seen for some time.

The weather was overcast but stayed dry and there were a nice selection of cars and bikes on display and on the track.

Next up and still at Santa Pod was one for the VW Enthusiasts - The Big Bang

As well as a great gathering of 'Show and Shine', 'Rust and Rat' and more camper vans than you can shake a stick at there was also plenty of other attractions from crazy fools jumping snowboards on wheels over solid concrete (Check the gallery) to drag bikes and funny cars on the drag strip.

This is always a good precursor to Bug Jam, More to follow about that.

Still at Santa Pod was one for the adrenalin junkies - Festival of Power.

Formally known as prince sorry Easter Thunderball this show has a bit of everything, from classics, hovercraft, jet minis, monster trucks and even tanks on the ground,  Top Fuel Dragsters, Drag Bikes and Funny Cars even side by side Jet Cars  amongst others burning up the 1/4 mile to action in the air in the form of a Spitfire flying amazing low.

Almost up to date now, are you still with me?

So this has now bought me up to last weekend which was the biggest Japanese Car Show in Europe. Japfest - Castle Combe

This show always draws large crowds and this year was no exception even thought the weather was a mixture of rain and wind with dry intervals in between.

As well as a vast number of cars on display there was also the opportunity to catch some of the top drifters on the track demonstrating how to drive a car sideways.

Japfest was also host to the Top Gear team, Mssrs Clarkson, Hammond and May filming for their new series, but strangely in non Japanese cars. I guess we will have to wait and see what that was all about.
